The 1300km Friendship HWY between Lhasa and Kathmandu in Nepal is a classic overland journey and easily the most popular travellers’ route through Tibet. It allows excellent detours to central Tibet’s most important monasteries, plus views of the world’s highest peak, Mt Everest, and it’s paved almost all the way!

Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Lhasa (D)

Our staff will greet you at Lhasa Airport/Railway to transfer you to hotel. From Lhasa Airport to downtown Lhasa, usually takes abt 1.5hrs; from Lhasa Railway Station, abt 20mins. After transferred to hotel, the rest of the day you will be free to wander around the city on your own but try not to overtax yourself. The first day’s well-rest is crucial to acclimatize high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not to shower if you can help it.

Also a welcome dinner will be held tonight(or tomorrow night) to introduce you to the whole bang that you are gonna travel with. We have customers from all over the world. Shall be fun to meet people from different countries, cultures and backgrounds.

Day 2: Lhasa (B)

sera-monastery-06Today you will visit totally 2 attractions in Lhasa suburb. In the morning, we will arrange you to see Drepung Monastery or Drak Yerpa. Exactly which one of these two will be decided by our operate team. In the afternoon, we will visit Sera Monastery; You will stay long hour on sightseeing today under the fierce sun of Tibet, do arm yourself with sunglasses/ hat/ sunscreen.

  • Drepung Monastery was built in 1416 and is the largest monastery of the Gelug Sect. It covers an area of 250,000 square meters.
  • Drak Yerpa is a place that has deep meanings in the Tibetan spiritual culture. There is a saying goes like this: "Lhasa is the shrine of Tibet, Drak Yerpa is the shrine of Lhasa. Not seeing Drak Yerpa in Lhasa is just like making a dress without the collar." The entrance to the Yerpa Valley is about 16 km northeast of Lhasa on the northern bank of the Kyichu River. From there, it is another 10 km to the famous ancient meditation caves.
  • Sera Monastery is located in the northern suburb of Lhasa City. The monastery was named Sera which means wild rose in the Tibetan language, because the hill behind it was covered with wild roses in bloom when the monastery was built. From of Mon~ Fri, every afternoon, you ll be able to see monks debating at Sera Monastery.

Day 3: Lhasa (B)

Potala-Palace-08This morning, visit Potala Palace. It is more than 3,700 meters above sea level and it is the highest palace in the world! At the top the palace called golden roofs, you can have a bird-eye view of the whole of Lhasa. In the distance there are undulating mountain ranges, the beautiful Lhasa River, tracts of fields, tree-shaded villages and the glistening Jokhang Temple.

Afternoon, visit Jokhang Temple, it is the first built during the period of Sontsan Gambo in the 7th century, features Buddhist prayer wheels, reclining deer, golden sutra streamers. You'll find that many Pilgrims pray before the monastery.

The circuit around it called Barkhor Street, a famous local handmade crafts market, which is a good place to purchase souvenirs.

Day 4: Lhasa- Gyantse (B)

Yamdrok-Lake-03Today's higlights are Yamdrok Lake, Pelkor Chöde Monastery with Gyantse Kumbum.

  • Yamdrok Lake: dazzling Yamdro-tso(elev 4441m) is normally first seen from the summit of the Kamba-la(4700m). The lake lies several hundred meters below the road, and in clear weather is fabulous shade of deep turquoise. Far in the distance is the huge massif of Mt. Nojin Kangtsang(7191m). En route we will drive pass by Mt Nojin Kangsang and its Karola Glacier.
  • Pelkor Chöde Monastery with Gyantse Kumbum: the sprawling compound in the far north of town houses Pelkor Chöde Monastery and the monumental Gyantse Kumbum, a chörten filled with fine paintings and statues. Both are deservedly top of the list on most travellers’ must-sees. Palkhor lies at the foot of Dzong Hill. It is well-known for its Kumbum, which has 108 chapels in its four floors. The multi-storied Kumbum Stupa was crowned with a golden dome and umbrella, surrounded with more chapels filled with unique religious statues and murals.

Day 5: Gyantse - Shigatse (B)

Tashilunpo-Monastery-5After arrival in Shigatse, we will first go to apply the Alien's Travel Permit(PSB) with your original passport presented which usually takes abt 30mins before sightseeing. Please bear with us.

Tashilunpo Monastery is one of the Six Big Monasteries of Gelugpa (or Yellow Hat Sect) in Tibet. Also called the Heap of Glory, the monastery is located at the foot of Drolmari (Tara's Mountain), Shigatse. Founded by the First Dailai Lama in 1447, the monastery's structure was expanded by the Fourth and successive Panchen Lamas. It covers an area of nearly 300,000 square meters. The main structures found in the monastery are Maitreya Chapel, Panchen Lama's Palace and Kelsang Temple. Tashilhunpo is the seat of Panchen Lama since the Fourth Panchen Lama took charge in the monastery, and there are now nearly 800 lamas.

Day 6: Shigatse - Tingri - Rongbuk/Tent Camp (B)

Rongbuk-Monastery-01Tibet has serious rule about speed-limit. Though from Shigatse to Everest region is only abt 350km or so in book, the no-more-than-40km/hr regulation, and the many road checks dotted on the way, really slow us down. So be prepared to spend around 10~12hrs on the road including meal time. The upside is the view along the way is superb. Get your camera ready. Also prepare some snacks with you to bring along.
You will arrive at Rongbu Monastery in the late afternoon. The monastery itself is quite tiny, but from here the view of Mt Everest is fantastic. You can choose to just hang around Rongbuk to take photos or visit it at your own expense of CNY 25/person.

Rongbuk Monastery is located in the Shigatse Region, southwest of the mysterious Tibet Autonomous Region, and to the north of the oblate Mt. Everest, the highest peak in the world. Seen from here, Mt. Everest appears like a lofty pyramid surrounded by mountains that touch the sky. On sunny days, a pile of thick clouds, just like a white flag floats lightly above the peak, which is known to be the miracle of 'The Highest Flag Cloud in the World'. Nowadays, with the golden travel boom to Mt. Everest, Rongbuk Monastery is gradually becoming a highlight for the tourists in its own right.

After sightseeing there, if it's summer time (usually May~Oct), we will carry on the last few kilometers to Everest Tent Camp to stay the night; if winter time (usually Nov~Apr), we will stay at Rongbuk Monastery’s guesthouse. Both places have but dorm bed lodging available. Both places you can see the glorious Everest sunset if the weather is good.

Day 7: Rongbuk/Tent Camp - Everest Base Camp - Zhangmu

Everest-Base-Camp-4We didn't include breakfast this morning. You will understand why when you're at the spot. Tibetan breakfast, such as noodle, zanba, etc. abt CNY 30 is available here. You are highly suggested to bring along some cookies, instant coffee. etc. of your own.

Everest Tent Camp is the furthest point vehicles can drive to. From here you will have to take the shuttle bus for the last glorious 4Km which is incredibly incredibly scenic. You’re hemmed in by high grey ridges to the east and west and as you look to the south, Everest’s north face dominates the skyline.

Endowed with springs, Everest Base Camp(elev 5150m) has a couple of permanent structures and a small army base. Clamber up the small hill festooned with prayer flags for great views of the star attraction, Mt. Everest, then have your photo taken at the base camp marker, reads "Mt. Qomolangma Base Camp."

Day 8: Departure from Zhangmu (B)

Tour ends today. After breakfast, transfer to Zhangmu Port.

I wanted to visit Beijing, China along with my wife. After long search I found a Travel Agency called Tour Travel China. They are in real good Travel Agent who helps lot to make your journey a memorable Trip in your life. They have good Tour guide who have deep knowledge of the place and explain well. They provide you a memorable Chinese traditional Lunch along with Tour. In my case I drop down my camera in the counter of China Air. I remember after I crossed Security checked I asked Airline persons but they never paid me any attention, but they helped me to find and return my camera within few days. I haven’t travelled with any other Travel Agency who goes beyond to help. If I got time to visit again I definitely will go with them and I will send my family and friends through their Travel Agency. More

The two day tour was all i needed. And they made it perfect. From the Badaling Great Wall, Changling Ming Tombs, Jade Factory and Tea Ceremony place to Forbidden City, and Summer Palace and Pearl Factory, it was wonderful. More

I booked this tour last minute and did not regret it! The cost was minimal compared to the fun I had! First we toured the Forbidden City and our guide, Leo, was wonderful! He shared great knowledge and gave us time to explore on our own. Next we went to the Jade factory and was given a short tour followed by lunch there. The dining experience was wonderful and delicious. We then headed to the Great Wall and it was amazing! Although our time there was limited to two hours, it was just almost perfect. We ended the day with a tea sampling and shopping. I couldnt have asked for a more perfect first tour of China. More

On our recent trip we visited :
1) Badaling Great Wall and the Ming Tombs with Linda
2) Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven and the Summer Palace with Jackson
3) Zhujiajao Water Town with Jason
We were well looked after and driven everywhere as part of a small bus group and met some lovely people. The local Chinese lunches were particularly nice. More

We had a 2-day tour with Tour Travel China.
The first day includes Badaling Great Wall and Changling Ming Tombs with visits to the Jade Factory and Tea Ceremony place.
The second day includes Tian An Men + Forbidden City, Tian Tan, and Summer Palace with visits to the Pearl Factory and Bao Shu Tang where we got a nice foot massage for only 20 Kuai.
The itinerary and tour service, especially the first day with David were absolutely amazing! He is a great tour guide, with excellent command in English as well as a nice personality.
The second day with Paul was a little bit too fast for our liking. He spoke too fast and a little bit unclear, and seem like almost too in rush for anything so I think that could be improved in the future. The meal in our second day was amazing though! Delicious!
Thank you to you and all TTC team for helping our trip in Beijing much easier! More

Enjoyed a hiking day trip with Tour Travel China to the Great Wall at Jinshangling. This is a further away section but much quieter and definitely worth the extra travel. I visited Mitanyu previously which was very busy.
Two hikes were available 7km and 13km. I took the 7km which was still quite challenging. Spent 2.5 hours on the wall. It’s an amazing experience.
After hiking we had a late lunch at a local restaurant and then headed back to Beijing.
There is no shopping, although there are a few hawkers on the wall.
Make sure you take lots of water and sunscreen with you as it can get quite hot in Summer.
The tour guide and driver were excellent and can recommend this trip.
The travel time is quite long so bring a tablet and headphones to keep you entertained More

We had a great 3-day tour. Most of it was a walking tour that required stamina. The cost was a good deal that included 3 lunch meals.
The tour guides Yoyo, Irish and Vik were very knowledgable about their history. Their English was good, but at times could not understand their accent.
The Lunch for the 3 days were good but on the 2nd and 3rd day, we were brought to the same restaurant. The service in the Great wall restaurant was good. Food was prepared on the table when we arrived. Unlike in the 2nd restaurant, food was served one at a time, hence time-consuming.
The mandatory stops, total of 5 in 3days: Jade factory, Tea factory, Pearl factory, Silk factory, Foot massage were informative but the time spent there could have been added for picture-taking in the tourist places.
The 24-hour hotline was veey helpful for queries.
Overall, Tour travel China met our travel expectations. More
