Tour Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Chengdu

Upon your arrival at Chengdu airport or Chengdu train station. Pick up and transfer to the hotel. The rest day is free on your own. You are suggested to visit the People's Park, Jinli Street by yourself.

Day 2: Chengdu to Lhasa (B)

Pick up from the hotel in the morning, transfer to Chengdu airport. Take flight to Lhasa. On your arrival, pick you up and tranfer to the hotel. Free at leisure to acclimatize yourself to the high latitude for the rest of the day.  

The first day's well-rest is crucial to acclimatize high altitude. Remember to drink lots of water, eat light, and not to shower if you can help it.

Day 3: Lhasa (B, L)

Today's highlights are The Potala Palace, The Jokhang Temple, and Barkhor Street.

• Potala Palace: This ancient architectural complex is considered a model of Tibetan architecture. Located on the Red Hill in Lhasa. The stone-and-wood-structured Potala Palace consists of the White Palace and Red Palace. The White Palace, comprising halls, temples and courtyards, serves as the living quarters of the Dalai Lama. The Red Palace includes various chambers for worshipping Buddha and chambers housing the eight stupa that contain the remains of fifth through thirteenth Dalai Lama. All the stupas are covered with gold foil. The most magnificent stupa belongs to the fifth Dalai Lama. It is 14.85 meters tall and inlaid with pearl and jade. The palace also collected a large number of sculptures, murals, scripture and other valuable cultural relics.
• Jokhang Temple is one of the spiritual center of Tibet,It lies at the center of the old Lhasa, Everyday pilgrims from every corner of Tibet trek a long distance to the temple,Some of them even progress prostrate by body length to the threshold of the temple.The temple keeps many invaluable cultural relics. The most famous and valuable one is the Sakyamuni statue aged 12, which is devout Tibetans by thousands of pilgrims day and night. After then, stroll around the around the temple is the Barkhor Street, the oldest street in a very traditional city in Tibet.
• Barkhor Street is a famous commercial and commodity-distributing center in Lhasa, consisting of more than 120 handicrafts shops and more than 200 stalls. It is a good choice that should never be missed by tourists coming to Lhasa, for you can buy anything Tibet-related, from sacks of incense, chunks of yak butter to monk outfits. Barkhor is the road that pilgrims tramped out around Jokhang Temple through centuries. When walking along Barkhor Street, you should move in the clockwise direction.

Day 4: Lhasa (B, L)

Today's highlights are Norbulingka, Tibet Museum, The Carpet Factory and Sera Monastery.

• Norbulingka means Jewel Garden. First built in 1751, it borrowed architectural style from the inland areas of China while maintaining local ethnic and religious features. Norbulingka served as a traditional summer palace and residence starting with the 7th Dalai Lama, and now it is the largest garden in Tibet.
• Tibet Museum: It is the official museum of the Tibet Autonomous Region in Lhasa. Inaugurated on October 5, 1999, it is the first large, modern museum in the Tibet Autonomous Region. It has a permanent collection related to the cultural history of Tibet. The museum has a collection of around 1000 artefacts, from examples of Tibetan art to architectural design throughout history such as Tibetan doors and beams.
• Sera Monastery: approximately 5km north of central Lhasa, Sera Monastery was one of Lhasa's two great Gelugpa monasteries, second only to Drepung. Between 3pm~5pm of Monday to Friday, debating is held in the monastery's debating courtyard, which is a sight so extraordinary and enchanting even you don’t understand a word they're saying.

Day 5: Departure from Lhasa (B)

Pick up from the hotel, transfer to the airport or train station to see you off. Service ends.

The first day includes Badaling Great Wall and Changling Ming Tombs with visits to the Jade Factory and Tea Ceremony place. The second day includes Tian An Men + Forbidden City, Tian Tan, and Summer Palace with visits to the Pearl Factory and Bao Shu Tang where we got a nice foot massage for only 20 Kuai.  The itinerary and tour service, especially the first day with David were absolutely amazing! He is a great tour guide, with excellent command in English as well as a nice personality. The second day with Paul was a little bit too fast for our liking. He spoke too fast and a little bit unclear, and seem like almost too in rush for anything so I think that could be improved in the future. The meal in our second day was amazing though! Delicious! This is a further away section but much quieter and definitely worth the extra travel. I visited Mitanyu previously which was very busy. Two hikes were available 7km and 13km. I took the 7km which was still quite challenging. Spent 2.5 hours on the wall. It’s an amazing experience. After hiking we had a late lunch at a local restaurant and then headed back to Beijing. There is no shopping, although there are a few hawkers on the wall. Make sure you take lots of water and sunscreen with you as it can get quite hot in Summer. The tour guide and driver were excellent and can recommend this trip. The travel time is quite long so bring a tablet and headphones to keep you entertained true More calishandysg 5.0 We had a great 3-day tour. Most of it was a walking tour that required stamina. The cost was a good deal that included 3 lunch meals. The tour guides Yoyo, Irish and Vik were very knowledgable about their history. Their English was good, but at times could not understand their accent.  The Lunch for the 3 days were good but on the 2nd and 3rd day, we were brought to the same restaurant. The service in the Great wall restaurant was good. Food was prepared on the table when we arrived. Unlike in the 2nd restaurant, food was served one at a time, hence time-consuming. The mandatory stops, total of 5 in 3days: Jade factory, Tea factory, Pearl factory, Silk factory, Foot massage were informative but the time spent there could have been added for picture-taking in the tourist places.
