Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Datong (Lunch)
Upon you arrival at Datong airport or train station, our guide will hold a sticker with your name waiting for you at the exit. Pick up and transfer to Yungang Grottoes. As the first on the must-go attractions of Datong, it is situated 16 kilometers (9.9 miles) to the west of the city center. According to the record, the construction of these grottoes lasted 50 years, and more than 40 thousand people took part in the project. There are now 53 grottoes with 51000 statues remaining. It is one of the largest grotto-groups in China.
Move on Huayan Monastery. It is located on the southwestern side of Datong City, Shanxi Province, China. It gains the name because there is a cave called Huayan Cave at the south side of the temple. Huayan Temple is the largest and most perfectly preserved temple of the Liao (916-1125) and Jin (1115-1234) dynasties in China.
After lunch, visiting Nine-dragon Wall in Datong. Set up in 1392 during the reign of Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty, the Nine-Dragon Wall in Datong was originally built as a screen wall to go in front of the mansion of the 13rd son of the first Emperor of Ming Dynasty, Zhu Yuanzhang with with 45.5 meters long, 8 meters high and 2.02 meters wide.
Last, transfer you to your hotel in Datong.
Day 2: Datong to Pingyao
Pick you up from your hotel in Datong. Visit Hanging Monastery. It was built into a cliff (75 meter or 246 feet above the ground) of Mt. Hengshan in Hunyuan County, Datong City, Shanxi province, China. Leaning on the precipitous mountain face and facing a deep valley, the temple was constructed in a unique way, which is the buildings are supported by sturdy wooden pillars inserted in holes cut in the mountain body. Seeing it from the distance you could find it hanging in the mid air miraculously, hence the name "Hanging Monastery".
After tour, transfer you to Datong railway station to Pinyao. On your arrival, pick up and transfer to the hotel. Today will be on your own arrangement to explore this ancient city.
Day 3: Departure from Pingyao (Lunch)
Pick you up from your hotel. Visit the Ancient City Wall. This city wall enjoys he longest history compared with the others across China and remains almost intact. The walls measure about 12 meters high, with a perimeter of 6,000 meters. A 4-meter wide, 4-meter deep moat can be found just outside the walls.
Next stop is Rishengchang Former Bank. It was the pioneer of China's national banking sector, once operated the economic lifeline of the Qing dynasty throughout the nineteenth century. Its branches were distributed in more than 30 cities across the country, as well as far to Europe and America, Southeast Asia and other countries, becoming famous to the world known as "Land of Wealth" at the time.
Following, you will proceed to County Government Office ''(Yamen)'' of Pingyao. There is a well-preserved Yamen, or county government office, a complex building that houses the home and office of the magistrate sent to act as mayor, judge, and senior official. This Yamen consists of an archway, ceremonial gate, a residential area, various offices, a court, meeting rooms, a garden, and a prison.
Shuanglin Temple is the last stop. It is sited in the countryside of Qiaotou village about 6 to7 kilometers (3.7–4.3 mile) southwest of the ancient city of Pingyao. It is a large Buddhist temple in Shanxi Province and is inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997. With more than 2,000 existing painted sculptures made in the Ming and Qing dynasties, Shuanglin Temple has been reputed as an "oriental art gallery of painted sculptures".
